Metacarpal Injury. Surgery & Downtime?!

Question: Metacarpal Injury. Surgery & Downtime.?
I fractured my 3rd metacarpal. Right now I'm in a cast for 1-2 months the doc says but it feels like it's getting worse. Not too much pain it just feels really weird. He said if the bone moves anymore I'll have to get it plated and screwed back together. Getting yet another xray tomorrow to see if it has moved.

My question:
How much downtime after the surgery will there be If I do get it.? Will I be able to write or use a mouse soon after.?

Very worried because semester starts tomorrow and my cast prevents me from writing so I'm kinda f'd. Have a bio lab too and all I got is my left hand.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I did the same thing. Had a spiral fracture on my 3rd metacarpal. I was in a cast for a couple weeks and then went skiing (stupid idea). When I got back my hand felt different so I got xrays again. I had to have surgery the first week of school, 1 week ago from today. The surgery was easy, but using your hand the first few days afterwards will be tough. After a few days it will start feeling alright. I was able to do homework after taking off all the gear, then just put it back on when Im finished. I take most my notes on my laptop. You wont know how long the plates and screws will be in, just depends how well your hand heals.Health Question & Answer
