Question: I'm in pain should i quit please answer.?
female/20. I'm having to work to take care of mysellf because my mom does not have much money, but now i'm not strong, i've had back and neck pain for like two years now and the GP said I should rest and not do hard jobs, the only job I can do is a retail job but all the job I have found are jobs like cleaner, kitchen assistant/cleaner, and care assistant, whenever I finish work I always have body aches and now I have decided that the best job for me is retail in a shop that does not require lifting but I cant find any there are no jobs out there for now, but this pain is unbeareable, I always crack my back and my neck and its so sore, and if I quit I wont even have money to eat or pay some bills, so what should I do should I quit and rest and keep looking or endure the pain till I find a more relaxed job. thanksHealth Question & Answer

That's a hard one I don't think anyone can offer a reliable answer to. I mean, if you keep working these physical jobs you'll prolly injure yourself, possibly permanent injury. If you quit you won't be entitled to unemployment, and if you can't find an easier job you're savings will run out very quickly (if you have any). Without an income you'll become more dependent on others, and the longer you're out of work the harder it'll be to get back in the game. It's so hard to know what to do here, I don't know what to tell you. Some might say you've got to put your health first, but in this situation your health is at immediate and significant risk regardless of which way you go.
The only thing I can suggest is that, whichever you choose, you MUST spend every spare second of every day from now on finding that retail sales job you want. That means no TV, friends, movies, eating out, hobbies, or anything fun. Your only priority at the moment is to fix your life, to get that one available job that 50 other teenagers in similar situations are vying for, fighting for. Use newspapers, internet, employment agencies, etc, but most importantly you need to know where the next available job is going to be before anyone else does, and the only way to do this is by cold canvassing businesses, do the whole interview thing with every store manager even if they insist they have no positions available, and give them your number to call if anything comes up, and start with the first business at 8am and go non-stop from business to business all day saturday till 5pm, and every minute your not working at your other physical job. 99.9% will turn you down, but you must keep going, because it's that 1000th business you walk into and make a good impression that will maybe hire you right there and then, and all of a sudden life is good!!Health Question & Answer

I'm so sorry for what you are going through... *hugs*

I don't have an answer, other than I think the second to respond gave you some good advice. I simply wanted to add that you might want to repost this in the following section:

Home > Society & Culture > Cultures & Groups > People with Disabilities

There are a lot of knowledgeable people in that section who would be able to help guide you through the DPW/SSI/SSDI systems, which I feel is definitely something you should look into. Unfortunately, I'm not knowledgeable on the subject, but several people in that section are.

Of course, you will find the very rude who will answer --pay them no mind. And it may take a day or so to receive some helpful advice, due to that being one of the less frequented sections. However, don't be discouraged.

Along with what the second to answer has given you, there should be some great advice coming your way shortly. Only the best to you, and good luck. Hope you are feeling better soon.Health Question & Answer
