Charlie horses after drinking?!

Question: Charlie horses after drinking.?
So I got a Charlie horse (calf cramp) the other night while I was sleeping and it was the worst pain of my life for about 30 seconds. I noticed I always get them after I have been out drinking for an extended time. I wasn't drunk that night, but I did have quite a bit over a long period of time. Is that normal.? I drink water, but it doesn't seem to help. What can I do to prevent them.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Alcohol consumption dehydrates you, ironically. When you get dehydrated, you lose certain much needed electrolytes like Potassium and Sodium. You need to drink lots of water after drinking, and before you go to bed. You should also take a multivitamin or eat a banana, chock full of potassium, before you sleep after a night of fun. This will help cut down the risk of getting that forsaken charlie horse you speak of. I've gotten them before and man, they are crazy painful. A trick to them, if you do get more... Always point your toes towards your head, to stretch the muscle back out the correct way. It will relieve the pain, fast, but a little will still linger from the strain. I know, its hard to remember that trick if you are awoken with immense pain in a hurry... but try. Good luck.
