Is ultracet addictive?!

Question: Is ultracet addictive.?
Answers:
Tramadol is the generic for Ultram. Ultracet is Tramadol+Ibuprofen.
It acts on the brain chemicals in much the same was as the strong Narcotics.

Ultracet is not classified as a Controlled Drug, so doctors along with patients think that it does not have the potential for abuse or addiction.

If you take Ultracet several times a day for a long period of time, your body is going to become accustomed to it. You may even need to take more in order to achieve the same pain control. Essentially addiction is when you NEED the medication, your body builds up tolerance to the medication and when you stop taking it, you experience unpleasant side effects.

I never thought of it as an Addicting medication. A nurse I work with was prescribed this 3-4 times a day over a course of a few months. When she went off of it, she suffered severe anxiety, sweating, nausea and depression. It came about quite suddenly and did not equate the symptoms as being anything to do with the Ultram.

It was.

Ways to avoid dependency or addiction: treat this medication as you would a narcotic. Take only when other medications like Tylenol do not get rid of the pain. Do not take more then a couple of times a day and do not remain on this for a long time.

I work in the medical field and my agency is seeing more and more cases of individuals who combine Ultram with stronger meds to achieve a more "intense high" or others who build up a tolerance.

I would be careful of how much and how often you take this medication.

Health Question & Answer

Yes it can lead to addiction. If you feel like you are going to have to use this medication for more than a couple of weeks you need to talk to your doctor about changing the ultracet to ultram. The ultram doesn't have Tylenol in it so it is not as hard on your liver.
I am a nurse and one of my best friends is a pharmacists and he feels like the FDA will make this drug a schedule 4 or maybe even a schedule 3 narcotic within the next two years.
Several years ago the medication Stadol nasal spray was not a scheduled drug either and numerous people became addicted to this med. It was eventually classifed as a scheduled narcotic.

I hope you get better soon and PLEASE ask your doctor to change you to ultram if you are going to have to stay on it for over a couple of weeks. Health Question & Answer
