Problem with my toe... help is needed and I'm desperate!?!

Question: Problem with my toe... help is needed and I'm desperate!.?
OK, so I get these ingrown toe nails on my right big toe, and it's really annoying... so I do what you should... pull it out and clean everything up real nice... I put a band-aid on it and a sock and go along for a few days, but every time I do this, it gets real swollen and red... and hurts a whole f***in' lot.... I think it's infected, but why when I take such careful precautions should it do this.? I air it out, keep it clean, but hydrogen peroxide on it, and do everything I should...
Am I missing something to prevent this.? Anything to make it go away faster.? All help is great help!Health Question & Answer

Lol people can be so dramatic! It's ok as long as your not feverish and/or nauseous.

Your body is fighting off the infection. Next time you need to follow up with a dab of neosporin, to keep the nail bed happy. You also may check to see if your shoes are actually the right size. They are probably pushing the nail to grow that direction.

This is just one of those things that will hurt, and your doing mostly the right things. Good luck and I hope it feels better soon! Health Question & Answer

blah blah blah. The easiest way to prevent these are to make damn sure you always cut your nails straight. Never ever cut them on a curve, that is usually what causes them. Ever since i stopped cutting mine on a curve, I have yet to have a recurrence. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

You need to go to a podiatrist ( foot doctor, that only deals with feet) if you have had ingrown toenails in the past and you get them out but they keep coming back then you will always get them unless the podiatrist does a procedure called a P & A which stands for phenol and alcohol. The doctor will numb your toe up with local anesthesia and then once it is numb he will cut the side of the ingrown nail out using nail nippers. He will then put the phenol on the matrix ( nail root) to kill it so the ingrown won't come back. If he doesn't do this it will come back. Your toe will be numb for several hours and while it is DON"T think its cute and drop something on it or hit it b/c after your toe wakes up it will kill you not to mention you could break your toe and need surgery.( yes that does happen)Health Question & Answer

you should never pull out a hang nail, only clip it as it grows out. When you pull it out your actually pulling the nail out of the live matrix tissue. That's why it gets red, swollen and possibly infected.

If you are having a problem with hang nails try changing the way you clip your nails. Toe nails should be clipped straight across and never rounded.

also never just rip your toe nails off, always use sharp nail clippers and clip them. If you have a sharp edge after clipping, use an emery board and file them in one direction until smooth.

If changing the way you trim your nails doesn't stop you from getting hang nails it's probably time to go see your doctor.Health Question & Answer
