Accidentally took more pain medicine than directed.?!

Question: Accidentally took more pain medicine than directed..?
I have fibromyalgia and am prescribed Norco, aka hydrocodone 10/325, for when the pain is too severe to handle. I don't take it that often but when it's bad I usually take the maximum dosage. I keep a pain journal of when, why, and how much pain medicine I take. Tonight I forgot to write down that I had just taken some. So I just took some more and I am sure it's not enough to kill me or severely damage my liver but I am just afraid of the heavy side effects that I will be feeling pretty shortly. How do I stop the dizzy, weird, high, out of my head feeling.? I usually never take enough to where I actually feel any of the above because I dread it and it scares me to feel that way.

By the way, I've only taken about 2 1/2 pills. Still it is more than I regularly take.Health Question & Answer

There really isn't any way to stop the high you're having. Y:our body will just have to metabolize it. How far apart in time were your pills.? I have given 2 Norco to patients but that is usually post-op or something. I don't think eating will make any difference. Why don't you try calling an advice nurse. I would be more concerned with how long you are going to sleep and how far down those pills will put you. If you are overmedicated you may not breath deeply when you are asleep and may not get enough oxygen. Since you are at home you have no way of measuring that, I know, I am just a little concerned that you may experience some sleep apnea. Have someone check on you to make sure you are okay would be my only suggestion. Health Question & Answer

Not taking your Norco often and then taking the maximum dose isn't really the right way to go with pain meds. It's better to stay on top of pain, and take a moderate amount BEFORE pain gets too bad and you feel like you need to max out.

But basically at this stage I don't think you can prevent the dizzy feeling, but you can take other precautions like having other people around you (in case), staying awake and making sure not to drive.

Maybe you could keep your pain journal WITH your meds.?Health Question & Answer

Nothing to worry about. That is still a small dose and might just make you feel sleepy. The side effects you describe are strange as this class of drug usually make you feel pleasure throughout your body. Just take a chill pill, oh wait you already did!Health Question & Answer

Norco 10, containing 10 milligrams of hydrocodone and 325 milligrams of APAP can be taken at a dosage of up to twelve tablets per day without serious side effect. Health Question & Answer
