There are so many possible triggers for migraines that it could be anything, but the common thread is that there is stress. I used to get terrible migraines - suffice it to say probably worse than anyone. I got experimental treatments and medications, all sorts of brain scans - you name it. And I just got sick of it all and decided that I was not going to have them anymore. That was age 15. I am almost 35 now and I haven't had a single headache since then. I just don't let stress collect there and I make sure to practise good breathing.

I don't think there's a more apt application of the "mind over matter" saying than for migraines, because all of my potential triggers are the same, except now I have a serious shoulder injury and neck problems which should set them off all the time, but they don't.

The most important thing is to learn how to release your tension, take breaths from the bottom of your lungs and open up your vascular system and keep it from being constricted. That's what I did. The rest of the triggers are irrelevant.Health Question & Answer

No, it can't. A migraine is usually the result of a chemical reaction. Mine are caused by MSG and certain perfumes. Alot of women get them from chocolate.
If you are getting headaches from sleep deprivation, then you are having tension headaches. If you had migraines, you would know what was causing them. And you wouldn't be asking about it on the computer, you'd be crying in the ER thinking you had a brain tumor....migraines are hell, and if you don't get them, then you don't understand.
Three years.? It took me one migraine at the age of 13 to be in the ER. You aren't getting migraines, I can tell you that.
God, you know none of these people were actually tested and diagnosed.....

This explains some of the types and causes.

Lack of sleep can definetly give you migraines. That is not the only cause though. My teacher's wife has had migraines for years and the doctors cannot seem to find out what causes them and how to get rid of them. Good luck though, i hope that doesn't happen for you.

Health Question & Answer

I get them when I sleep too much (9+ hrs). I don't get them with too little sleep, but I'm sure it happens for some people.Health Question & Answer
