How do you handle this prescription glasses mistake by an optician?!

Question: How do you handle this prescription glasses mistake by an optician.?
We just found out that my daughter's prescription glasses from last year was off a lot. After checking all the records and the optician admitted a mess up in copying +/- sign in the cylinder column (1.00/1.25). This explained some complains daugher made on her eyes/glasses, but we never questioned the glasses (our mistake). It was the ophthalmologist she saw last week identified the problem of the glasses. The spherical part is correct.

The optical shop manager offerred to give us the next pair of lenses for free. As we have insurance to cover most of the cost, we don't have much out of our pocket. Although we are really upset about it, we decided to let it settle like this. But one emplyee we saw there yesterday was pretty rude and appeared doing us a huge favor by giving out free glasses. It really made us wonder whether we should just let it go this way. Health Question & Answer

Well, aside from giving you the next set of glasses for free. There's not a whole lot they can do. Maybe the employee was unaware of the entire situation. That happens quite often if you have full-time/part-time employment. Sometimes important information gets by-passed. So, they may NOT have known the full scope of the problem. If you are truly upset by the employees actions then I would suggest speaking directly to the manager and letting them know how you were treated. They may NOT be able to do anything monetarily or otherwise for you but, they may be able to "reign" in a problem employee!

I usually if possible try to by-pass "employees" and have any problems sent directly to management if possible. It saves A LOT of time/energy since in most cases a regular employee won't be of much help and will not only get frustrated but, frustrate the customer as well.

Same thing happened to me after I spent $600 on really thin Zeiss lenses. Luckily I went back to my opthamoligist and had him look at them. They made a second pair and I accepted them thinking they were correct. A year later the doctor told me they were made incorrectly a second time. I went back to the optician but really after a year what are they going to do.? I guess you should always bring them back to your doctor to make sure they make them to his specifications.Health Question & Answer
