What do i have? my knees KILL!!!?!

Question: What do i have.? my knees KILL!!!.?
hi im 13 and ive been doing a lot of research about the pains in my knees. They hurt when i run a lot, walk, jump, squat, go up and down stairs, and sit for a while [right after i take a couple of steps after i stand up] I think i have patellofemoral syndrome or patella tendinitis. i used the mayo clinic symptom checker. (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/symptom... [I do know that online diognosis is just to give you a basic idea of what you might have] after i did that i found out about treatment. the biggest one are to stop physical activitie but thats basically impossible for me because i do vollyeball basketball and softball. i also found that physical therapy is an option but my mom would never consider that since it is pretty exspensive. another option is that you could wear a brace to see if that would help. PLEASE ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTION: ****how do i tell my mom i want to try a brace to see if it would help with the pain.?**** im planning on telling her that i have done research on it. thx so much! everything helpsHealth Question & Answer

I was diagnosed with PFPS (patellofemoral pain syndrome) when I was 13. I was told that it's not uncommon for young girls to have it, and that you usually grow out of it. I'm 21 now and I've pretty much grown out of it. I used braces for a while and had 2 different physical therapy treatments. Physical therapy is usually covered by most insurance plans. You can usually get 20 or so visits a year covered. I'd check with your insurance plan to see what's offered though. Personally, the PT helped me a lot, and I was able to continue my treatment on my own by just keeping the muscles in my legs and around my kneecaps strong.

I'd recommend telling your Mom that you have this really bad knee pain and that you'd like to get it checked out by a doctor. Tell her that you did some research online and would like to see if you could get some braces from your doctor to see if they help with the pain and so you can continue playing sports. If your Mom thinks it just average muscle/joint soreness from the sports, let her know that you feel the pain even when walking and that you'd like to visit a doctor to get it checked out for sure.

I understand the pain you're going through. Mine was pretty extreme for a good 5 years or so. It's definitely worth it to get it checked out. There are a lot of treatments that can help you with the pain without making you give up activities. I hope this helped answer your questions! Good luck! :)Health Question & Answer
