I'm having a "popping" feeling in my lower back just under my ribcage?!

Question: I'm having a "popping" feeling in my lower back just under my ribcage.?
I was in a bad car accident earlier yesterday. I had and still have a sharp pain in my lower back right under my ribs and just over my right hip. I had multiple x-rays and everything came back normal. Nothing broken. But the thing is that I keep having this strange "popping" feeling from time to time in the spot where I have the sharp pain. The doctor told me that it is because my back is sprained and it is my ligaments popping. If it doesn't go away or the pain doesn't subside within five days, for me to go see him again and to have an MRI done.
In the meantime though, I'm wondering.... does this sound right.? It just doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like there could be something really wrong and it hurts REALLY badly whenever this "popping" happens! Any clue as to what else it could be.? Or am I just over reacting.?
I know I should trust the doctor.... I guess I am just looking for reassurance. Has this or anything similar ever happened to anyone else.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
youre right to be wary, but you are just overreacting.

when you have popping, it's very rarely bone, which is the nasty thing to have popping. x-rays dont detect soft tissue damage, which is why the MRI would be done in the future. when you hear a pop, it's generally ligaments or joints that are slightly out of place being slid back into place, kind of like cracking your knuckles.

the reason is that you have swelling in your back muscles so nothing is fitting exactly as it should. you only need to go back for an MRI (read: expensive as ****, not that youd care) if the noise doesnt decrease noticeablyHealth Question & Answer
