Would you have paid the full fee?!

Question: Would you have paid the full fee.?
I have been seeing my doctor for ten years. He is out of network with my new insuracne plan and charges me $80 a visit. I do not have any health problems, I saw him once this year for a respiratory infection. I went in to pay him the fee (after realizing my insurance won't cover it) and said I forgot to ask if he could renew my excema prescription. His wife is the the receptionist, she said I would have to be seen again. I said that I don't want to pay $80 to get a prescription renewed, and would wait to see an in-network doc. She told me the visit would only be $45.00. I thought this was steep, but wanted my prescription so I agreed and came back in an hour.
My doctor looked at my neck, asked if it is itchy and then said, "what do you want.?" He wrote the prescription and left. (literally 2 minute visit).
His wife then charged me $80 dollars and insisted it was an extended visit. I reminded her that she said it was only $45. She said she made a mistake and it was an extensive visit. I refused and she asked her husband how much and then chagred me $50.
I paid the $50. She wrote a reciept stating there is a $35.00 balance due. I asked her to correct it and she said they are writing the rest off. I asked her to write paid in full on the recipet and she broke out crying, said, "you don't trust me!" We're wiping our hands clean of you, you are done here.
I know they will keep sending me bills for the balance. I do not feel comfortable being bullied and giving them $35,00 for nothing (my job deducts $100 a pay period for unusable insurance!) I feel cheated just trying to get a $4.00 tube of cream!Health Question & Answer

This is the part where you look at the doctor, not his stupid wife, and say, "Hey. I'm going somewhere else from now on. Not because your a bad doctor, but because you're gouging me and I can't afford it."

Or lay a guilt trip on him, "I can't afford to see you any more, your fee is too high so I will just struggle along and suffer."

That makes them cringe.

What an AHOLE.

My dermo charged me $245 for 4 minutes. Then he wanted a follow up for $280 and wrote out a script for some kind of cream that cost $300 for a huge tube and I only needed a little bit of it.

Guess what.? I didn't go back, I didn't get the cream. I suffered and when they called to find out why I wasn't returning, I told them I didn't have the money and couldn't afford that kind of expense for 4 minutes of his time.

They offered to finance it and I told them to --- well its an expletive.

So you got the gist of it.

Doctors and their wives especially can be extraordinarily greedy.Health Question & Answer

Gee, that's awful.

You have a choice. Pay what you owe them when they bill you, or fuss with them via letters.

If you go the later route, they might be spiteful enough to get sent to collection.

What sucks is now you have to find a new doctor, and you're out the cash.Health Question & Answer

those kind of doctor are scams,I would be find another doctor, you shouldn't have had to pay for another visit when you were there,he should have called that in for you.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like they did you a favor by letting you go as a patient. Get a new doctor. As for the money, no way I would not pay it.Health Question & Answer

Their operation does sound pretty shady, though, I'd always want to hear the side of a crying woman. But that's just me, a huge sucker.Health Question & Answer
