Does EMLA the topical anaesthetic cream work? ?!

Question: Does EMLA the topical anaesthetic cream work.? .?
Since i'm pregnant i'll be getting my blood drawn ALOT, i spoke to my doctor who said she'd write a letter to my midwife stating i've to be numbed before getting blood drawn with the numbing cream Emla, i have a vein phobia, i faint and be sick when i think about it getting done or see it getting done,my doctor seen this when she took blood from my partner a month back, so she suggested it would be good for me to look away and be numbed so that i couldn't see nor feel it happening so i wouldn't know and then my imagination wouldn't run wild.

Can you please tell me if this cream actually numbs you or not.? I've been told it doesn't by my partner but he just trys to scare me as he knows it really gets to me the fact i can't stand getting blood drawn. I'm FINE with needles & injections just don't like them getting poked into my vein so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks & no judgement please or i'll report you. Health Question & Answer

As a pediatric nurse I can tell you that I have used EMLA and it works. Just be sure to apply it 30 mins before you get stuck and keep it on until the very last second. It does have a lasting time before it wears off but I do not want my little ones to hurt so I take all the precautions I can. And it cannot harm you ar the baby. Good luck.Health Question & Answer
