get a massage, one of your discs is crooked, the longer you put this off, the worse it will get. your back is not like your arm, it won't just heal if it breaks. i have a friend who did dead lifts and had the same feeling as you, now he has a permanently damaged back and is legally handicapped, he can still walk and run though, it just really hurts him if he lifts like 50 pounds. he had to take off one year of his work to recover.

a muscle strain is very easy to distinguish from a bad disk. muscle strain - you will feel an uncomfortable stretching sensation all over your back when bend over.
spine injury - there will be a sharp pain in one spot of your spine, ONLY your spine, not anything around it like muscles.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like a muscle strain. It is crucial to use proper body mechanics with lifting, as you just learned. Apply ice for 20 minutes, then heat for another 20 minutes at least 3 times a day. Do not leave either on for more than 20 minutes or you could burn yourself. also NEVER use a heating pad with icy-hot or you could both burn yourself and possible poison yourself. (heat opens the pores, absorbs the chemicals and at high levels can get into your blood). also elevate your legs by placing a pillow under your knees, this will flatten out your back and remove the strain on the muscles. Basically do what ever feels good and avoid what hurts.

If after 2 weeks you aren't feeling much better then see your doctor. Up to this point he will give you similar advice to just give it time. The therma-heat back wraps are fabulous and I highly recommend them. Put one on before you go to bed and you are good for 8 hours, or put it on in the morning and it will help all day. The increased blood flow promotes healing and relaxation of the muscles thus reducing pain.

Hope this helps.
