Paxil for depression and Anxiety ?!

Question: Paxil for depression and Anxiety .?
Male 22.
I have been suffering from Severe Anxiety and Depression. Have has several tests and all doctors came to conclusion that my symptoms are due to Anxiety and Depression. I have taken time off from University and small tasks are so hectic for me. I don't know what happened to me. :( I was so active in everything Job, School, Gym.

Now I am sitting home from past 2 months. :(

I think its genetic and got it from my Mom's side.

I was put on Clonazepam for 1 month which helped my Anxiety but made my depression worse. My doctor didn't want me to take it for long time as she said you can get dependent and decided to put me on effexor. I couldn't tolerate its side effects so now she put me on Paxil 10 mg.

Anyone who know if it will help my Anxiety and Depression .?

Its been three months and i don't know what happened but I can't function properly at all.

Please don't scare me with side effects of it :(. I really want to get back on track.

Any positive thoughts and do I have any hope .?

btw. This started when I had a sever Panic Attack back in November that landed me in E.R.Health Question & Answer

I was diagnosed years ago with generalized anxiety which basically took over my life. Went on Paxil and it really helped. Sometimes you have to get your dosage adjusted. I started with 10 mg. gave that a couple weeks, nothing so we gradually increased it. Would get a little better with each increase and then when I got to 40mgs. that was the magic number for me. Went off of it years later because I thougth I didn't need it anymore. Couple months ago severe anxiety came back but this time had depression to. Went back on Paxil, gradually increased to 40mg again and seems to be really helping. It takes time but if 10 mg. doesn't bring any releif after a couple weeks talk to your dr. may have to increase dosage and find the right dose for you. Paxil is known to help with depression and anxiety. How long have you been on the 10 mgs of paxil.? If it has been 3 months it appear to not be working and talk to dr. about increasing it. I had side effets but none were serious and went away, sleepy, little spacey but like I said they went away. Some people don't get side effects on diffferent meds, so you might not even get any from the paxil. Are you seeing your family dr. or a psychiatrist.? For meds I would highly recommend a psychiatrist-----more knowledgable about condition and meds. That was the life saver for me. Family dr. didn't have a clue, psychiatrist did. Been there myself and yes there is hope as it gets better. For me it was finding the right med. and dose but once you find it it helps. It just takes time for the meds to build up in your system. I know how hard its to have to wait but just hang there and do whatever you have to do to get thru the day. I did a lot of crying and pacing my anxiety was so bad. Just keep telling yourself you are one day colser to getting better. You just don't know when that day will be an the was the hardest part for me. BUT it does get better. If youhave any questions or need to talk just e-mail me I have been there and have gotten better and you will to.Health Question & Answer

I've been on paxil for over 14 years, and it was an enormous help for my MDD/anxiety.

no side effects for me.

10 mg. is a low dose, don't give up on this med. until you're up to 40 mg/day.

and if that doesn't work, ask your dr. about adding buspar or T3.

and if none of that works, please stay positive and try the next med your dr. prescribes...

don't read too much into the side effects, and onset of relief, that people post on here -- everyone is different !

I hope you have a strong support network that you can lean on while you get better (and you WILL get better). do NOT be ashamed to ask for help -- this is when you will find out who is **really** in your corner...Health Question & Answer
