Mentally blocked, why?!
Question: Mentally blocked, why.?
I am a creater, and performer. Lately can not write a song. Normally i pick my guitar and words and music start flowing. Not this time. Suddenly i got this urge to learn "If We Are the Body" by Casting Crowns. Does anybody think this is weird, could there be a physiological connection or something.?Health Question & Answer
Answers:
Psychological connection.? Yes.
I have been a musician and painter all my life. There are definitely times I felt blocked. For me there were definite stresses which included worry about money, general anxiety, and self-criticism. I find that being around other creative people has been a soothing influence and I like having the support. I also found that creating on a regular basis (every day) is helpful.
I love the book "The Artist's Way" by Julie Cameron which has helped a great deal by offering many inspirational ideas on how to keep the creative juices flowing. I highly recommend this book for anybody who is involved in creative pursuits.
I frequently take walks just to be inspired. I go to art galleries and to places where live music is being played. I am just playing on these walks, but I never go home without inspirational ideas. It is important to simply get involved with your creativity - don't judge yourself and just let it flow. Making the effort to be creative is the trigger for creating more creativity. You don't wait for a good day or a good feeling, you must simply put yourself to work - then the creativity will flow. Good luck!!
Edit: The importance of not sensoring yourself is key. For years I used to sit in my office/studio and experiment with quick watercolor paintings on scrap paper (just warming up). I threw most of those away because they were only scaps of ideas and warming up exercises. My co-workers would fish many of them out of the trash, beg me to sign them and would scurry away with them. Later I would visit co-workers in their homes and many of those scrap pieces were framed and hanging on their walls. I couldn't remember doing most of them and many of them were really nice. I couldn't believe I had been tossing them into the trash.Health Question & Answer
