Question: Im Bulimic, and I cant stop.?
I dont know WHAT to do.
I try to stop, but I cant.
I dont want to tell anyone i know,
Any ideas .?

This is a difficult one! I've been there, done that, but I don't anymore.

You have recognised it is a problem, so you have taken the first step but the key to it is learning to love and respect yourself. I nearly died a few times due to it. I had low potassium (Hypokalaemia), and my heart should have given in with such low levels! I had Quinsies (my throat closed up and I couldn't breath, luckily I was a nurse and lived in the hospital grounds). There are other health problems associated with it, such as tooth enamel erosion from all the acid that passes over them when you vomit, osteoporosis, etc. but you may know all this.

It may not help to tell someone close to you because it could make you worse but a GP could refer you to the Eating Disorder Association who understand the problems associated with the condition and the mental anguish that accompanies it!

Good luck and think hard about who you feel comfortable confiding in. I gave up eventually after having my first child, when i got my first period for years! but i wouldn't recommend that as a treatment, but it was the pregnancy and the bond to my child that changed my self-perception, which was the key. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is brilliant as a method of finding problem thinking and can work for all sorts of life issues, including depression, anxiety and eating disorders, it has worked wonders for me and I am now a positive thinker and can see my life as a world of opportunities after forever being a pessimist and seeing the black side of everything!

You need to break any links you have between what you eat and how you feel. Its difficult to stop but possible. But the way to do it is to get certain ideas out of your head, eg ideas like if you're thin, it will solve your problems. So you need to break this cycle, so that you dont keep focusing on food when you feel bad.
The first thing to do is work out what caused you to start. You must have been feeling really down about yourself in the first place. So you need to go back and try to work out why, and find solutions to that problem. Its possible that focusing on food to this extent is a way of avoiding dealing with something else. So if that something gets sorted it will become a lot easier to stop.
It will be easier to achieve this if you talk to somebody, but it doesnt have to be somebody you know. There are helplines etc. I wish you all the best.Health Question & Answer

What is really positive is that you have recognised that you have a problem and that you want to stop which is a huge step. Well done. Your family will want to help you and you'll find it difficult to keep from them for a long time which will cause you more anxiety so please consider telling them. If you really cant then talk to your doctor. They can't and won't tell your family but will help you.

go to the doctor and they will refer u to a specialist. do it now. you've recognised you have a problem so well done - that's the first step. maybe you could confide in a friend and they could go to the doctor with you if you need support, but you won't have been the first the doctor has seen so don't worry about going. they'll be very nice to you :-)Health Question & Answer
