Question: I have a question about prozac.?
I've been on prozac for almost a month. I am suppose to go back to my doctor. Right now I have no insurance, and my doctor wants me to gain weight before I go back to her ( which I haven't..yet). But anyways. I am really depressed. I do feel the prozac has helped a small amount. I am taking 10mg twice a day. Since I am so depress.. would my doc probably up my dose or not.? If you don't think she will, I really rather not go back till I have insurance. But I really want to feel less depressed.Health Question & Answer

when i was on prozac the doctors upped my dose once every two weeks til i was on 60 mg. i was very depressed however with anorexia and ocd. if you tell him you feel it is working and would love a bigger dose i am sure he will consider it .... Most doctors start out low and work their way up IF you see a change. Most doctors will not go above 80 mgs. a day.
If you are paying a lot for a doctor visit have you attempted to find a mental health clinic that work on a sliding scale, most cities have something available. You can look in the phone book under Mental Health Administrator-State. God Bless Reggie

That is a REALLY small dose, and Prozac caused me to start gaining weight...so I would guess, yes. She will probably up your dose. If you talk to you psychiatrist about not having insurance, she may be able to help you out with that too! Prozac takes three or four weeks to work properly and most doctors start with a low doasge and work up from there. also your weight is very important because the doctor prescribes i according to your body weight so she may want youto gain weight before she increases your dosage.

I think your doctor will put you Prozac up, Your quite lucky for alot of people with depression including myself they have to throw a lot of different Anti Depressants before they can find one that works.
