Does this sound like OCD? (Serious answers only please)?!

Question: Does this sound like OCD.? (Serious answers only please).?
About two months ago, I started to have these symptoms that kind of reminded me of OCD. I will be doing my homework, and if I misspell a letter or write something wrong, I will erase it and write it again twice more. In other words, I feel like I have to do certain things a certain number of times. While reading a book, I sometimes feel as if I have to read a line a certain number of times. The reasons I do this are either I feel like I have to do this out of habit (.?), or if I don't do it my family will get hurt. also, and this is a big one, When I hear the word "die" or "death", if I imagine a persons face in my head, i worry that something will happen to that person. What is this.?

Mental health professionals, please help me.?Health Question & Answer

Hi,

Well, I wouldnt exactly describe myself as a "mental health professional" but I have worked in the mental health field and done mental health nursing training so I am have quite a bit of accurate knowledge on the subject.

What you describe may not be OCD, it may just be a bad thinking habit that's spiralled out of controlled. Sometimes focusing too much on a problem and worrying about it can just make it worse.

If you feel like this problem is effecting your ability to function daily then its probably best to go to your dr and explain the problem. If not though it may be something you find goes away with time. Lots of people have seemingly odd ritual or thoughts so try not to worry too much. I think its only natural to worry that you've "jinxed" someone by picturing them and linking their face to death in your mind. I know I do!

Your probably burnt out in something. Heavy reading does it to all in study too. You have to break and go actually outside for air and walk.
Take that break. Go on the back porch something it helps if it is raining hard. Anxiety does this at times to all.

Sound like the beginning of what might become a problem. Health Question & Answer

I'm no mental health professional ... as in, I don't have the phd after my name to prove it ... but I am a person who copes and manages quite well with my own mental issues (we all have 'em, in some shape or form). What you describe sounds like it could be ocd. Solely based on the fact that you feel you "have" to be repetitive or that if you aren't, something "bad" will happen. My sister has ocd, not to the extent where her life is interrupted and she needs meds, but she is aware that her obsessions with numbers and repeating things isn't the norm. She also gets the whole "something bad will happen if I don't do X,Y or Z" thing too. Health Question & Answer

yea i agree with the other person anxiety does cause this so if you get your anxiety manageable on your own and it goes away great i think that is the first place to start

now if you cant and you still have these problems then you might have ocd or maybe just an anxiety disorder but ocd usually comes on gradually not suddenly like this which lends itself more to be likely caused by stress not ocd

stress can also cause acute paranoia and or mild acute brief psychosis and delusional thinking but if you realize its not normal your probably not psychotic but you could still be paranoid i personally like to think of it as high anxiety but the sad thing is most people write that idea off and think it must be something diagnosable because they dont feel as stressed as they really are Health Question & Answer
