Yes. Schizophrenia isn't wholly genetic - if it runs in your family then you're more susceptible, but it can also be triggered by traumatic events or drug use (although far from everybody who suffers trauma or takes drugs becomes schizophrenic). And sometimes, it's just plain bad luck.

Yes it is possible. My step daughter developed it around 30 and there was no family history at any time to anyones knowledge.
It ruined her life and everyones life around her. I sure as hell hope it hasn't gotten to you or yours because it's completely devastating to a persons life as well as your family and friends.
If you or someone you know suspects it see a qualified psychiatrist ASAP. There are some very effective medications, but don't let it go to long. It's a progressive disease and only gets worse with time.Health Question & Answer
