What does lexapro do to you?!

Question: What does lexapro do to you.?
My doctor just recently diagnosed me with Social Anxiety Disorder and Depression. He prescribed lexapro for me, but im pretty reluctant on taking it because of the potential side effects. Do you recommend using it, or should i find alternative methods to combat my SAD.?Health Question & Answer

Potential side effects lasted a week for me.
I have been on Lexapro for six months now. It was prescribed for severe GAD (generalized anxiety disorder). I finally realize after taking this medication that I must have been depressed, because I am happy now. I am nicer, more personable, more social, and no longer worried over stupidity. Its great to feel content. It was a terrific decision.Health Question & Answer

It ain't gonna harm you if you struggle with those disorders. The side effects usually don't happen, and if they do to the point where they are seemingly taking over your life, you can try a different medication.

I, personally, don't believe in medication. I think one can get over anything with the right mindset, whether that involves therapy or your own self discipline. Medications have never worked for me. I was able to get over my prolonged anxiety disorder on my own. It took a lot of work and brain power, but I did it!

It's totally up to you whether you want to take the medication or not. 99% of people don't have the brain capacity to get over their disorders, which is why they have the disorder in the first place... Health Question & Answer

I take Wellbutrin SR (150 mg) in the morning, and Lexapro (10 mg) in the evening, for depression and anxiety. I've been taking that for over a year and a half, and it's working very well for me.

Those are relatively low doses of each - which keeps the side effects low, too.

It has helped me more than I could tell you, and along with the therapy I feel much better than I would have ever guessed.

It does take several weeks for the Lexapro to reach its full effectiveness, so if you don't notice anything for a couple weeks or so, don't give up.Health Question & Answer

I'd recommend doing everything else possible besides medication. use meds as a last resort kinda. the only reason i say this is cuz after 13 years of counseling and therapy, i still ended up in the hospital and was put on meds, lexapro being one of my first, and it caused me to gain weight and make me more depressed than i was. also, idk if its from the lexapro or any of the othrs i have been on but i now have a permanent twitchHealth Question & Answer
