Typical teenager or not?!

Question: Typical teenager or not.?
I'm 15 and for about 3-4 months I've been having bad mood swings, I can be hyperactive 1 minute and within 2 minutes I can be depressed. These mood swings last around an hour at a time. Any ideas what it could be.? Health Question & Answer

Well they do say that in your teen years, you do tend to experience these kinds of mood swings and that is it normal. also remember that your hormones are still balancing themselves in your teen years, so all this that you are experiencing is quiet normal for your age. However, if it is lasting too long, it may be a good idea to talk to your doctor.

Most likely not bipolar. Bipolar episodes last weeks to months....notback and forth within a day, exept for ultra rapid cycling bipolar, which is pretty rare. Mania is also quite a bit more then just hyper active. Bipolar typicly shows up in late teens early twenties. I was diagnosed when i was 17, but know i was having episodes and suicidal thoughts as early as 12 or 13
Cyclothymia....a milder disorder on the bipolar spectrum i guess could be possible, but likely not.

Would more likely be hormones and just being a teen, or possibly thyroid. Just because some teens dont have many hormonal mood issues doesnt meen that its not normal....many doHealth Question & Answer

Hormonal mood swings are a BIG part of why teenage years are so hard. I like to say "think of your body as a car, your brain is you sitting in the back seat. And at the steering wheel is a spastic monkey smoking crack. That monkey is your hormones, driving you all over the road."

When you feel super hyper, enjoy it as best you can. When you're super depressed, remind yourself that the spastic, crack-smoking monkey drove you into a ditch, and you'll be out in a bit.

It gets easier, I promise.Health Question & Answer

Have you tried tracking your moods by keeping track of what you eat, exercise etc. for a couple weeks.? Take a notebook & jot things down during the day noting the time, what you ate, what you were doing right before a mood swing, etc & see if you can figure out any patterns. Do certain people set you off.? certain sayings.? a certain time of day.? If you can't find any pattern, and the mood swings aren't getting worse or more prolonged, I'd chalk it up to teenage hormones and move on to ways of dealing with them (exercise, phone calls, meditation, chocolate ..).Health Question & Answer

I vote bipolar. I'm a teen. And I know many other teens. None of us are like that. I do a teen though, who can be nice and friendly, and then the next minute he's completely mean and freaking out. He's bipolar and won't take his medication. That's why he's like that. So I suggest you go see your doctor and tell them about your mood swings. If you *are* bipolar, medicine will clear the mood swings up. :)Health Question & Answer
