Question: Can i ever drink again.?
i take lithium and xanax...if i skip a dose for a day can i go out with my frinds on a normal night and have a few drinks. i havent had a sip of alcohol in 2 and a half years. would just like to have a night to kick loose a lilHealth Question & Answer

Yeah, I agree, ask your doctor. It's best to be honest in these situations.
My thoughts, from my own experiences are - I have bipolar, and I used to take lithium. It's very important to be stay hydrated, and having a massive night out, dehydrates you, and could cause some serious problems. So you have to drink plenty of other liquids and be very careful. You run the risk of maybe getting a little down afterwards, and possibly then a little manic, as your body wont absorb the meds properly, but yes... It's easy enough for people in general to say dont drink, take your meds, dont let loose, but reality is, that some of us quite enjoy a few drinks, but when you have bipolar, it complicates the situation.
I guess it depends how stable you are, if you have any importnant commitments coming up in the next week afterwards, all that kind of thing. And if you havent had a drink in a while, it probably wont take much for you to get sloshed *lol* so just take it easy.
I'm not advocating any kind of binge drinking, but you know what I mean. It's basically a trade off, there's a high chance you'll be less stable and how much you drink and how your body takes it all.
Regarding Xanax, depending on how much I've eaten, what I drink etc, Xanax can sometimes make me sleepy, or it just relaxes me, so it's best just to take it easy, see how you're going. also alcohol is a relaxant, so having a drink might do the same as a bit of xanax - to a degree. Not that I'm again, advising using alcohol over xanax, I'm just being honest, in how drinking affects me.

I wouldnt. Even if you skip a dose, you body will still contain the medication. You can get really depressed when you drink while taking them. Theres a reason why doctors say dont take with alcohol you know. Even when you stop taking those meds your body has them stored for about a month.Health Question & Answer
