Antidepressants work different ways in different people. One drug might work really well for someone and not at all for the next. The only real way to know is to try it out, and stay on it at least 6 weeks (that's the minimum amount of time it takes to normalize).

I took mirtazapine together with venlafaxine (Effexor), and they worked really well for depression. They evened out my emotions, and I only cried when I really needed to, not just all the time. I started getting good effects from it within a couple of weeks, and felt a lot better after about a month.

That said, it can have some side effects that aren't great. I was really, really sleepy all the time, sometimes it was hard to concentrate to stay awake. It also made me hungrier and thirstier, but if you can control the cravings you won't put on weight. It's a good idea to start exercising more if you're going to take it.

If it works for the depression though, the side effects are usually worth it. Give it a try, at least.

Im shocked to see so many depressed people. and dont take this the wrong way please but i consider it a natural respons to the fact that people are becoming more and more distant to God to the point that they actually deny his existence (aldo deep down inside they know it very well that God exists). Because people dont believe in God anymore they feel alone all the time, sometimes even when they are with theyr loved ones. This is going on all over the world and there has been an encrees on suicides and depressions lately and its very worrying to me.(im orthodox)Health Question & Answer

For me, the combination of mirtazapine and remeron was what finally worked. I had been put on many different things by my doctor, until we finally hit on this combination. Yes, I agree, meds work differently for everyone. I hope it works for you.Health Question & Answer
