Symptoms: Everything seems loud.?!
Question: Symptoms: Everything seems loud..?
Hi!
I used to get this often as a child. I've only had it very occasionally as an adult. I'm actually experiencing it right now which is why I'm asking. I think it may have something to do with stress.?
Sometimes, everything SEEMS louder. I know it sounds crazy, but in those instances (which last from about 5-15 mins), even the smallest sounds such as the clicking of the typewriter keys or the hum of my laptop seem amplified, while not actually being louder...
The best way I can describe it is if you were watching a movie, and in the movie someone turns a stereo up really loud, and you can tell it's loud even though your own TV volume is at a regular level. That's how everything seems. It sounds like it is loud, but it isn't. It's just incredibly distracting and I have to really concentrate to make it go away, or sometimes the very opposite: I have to busy myself with something else.
In conclusion: Am I dying.?Health Question & Answer

I had this happen to me about five times when I was between the ages of 10 and 12. The first time it happened I was in the middle of a bout with chicken pox and figured that was the cause, but after I had it a few times I realized that it only happened after I had been reading right before I headed off to bed. Sounds very odd - yet for some reason this was the catalyst for me.
Like you say, everything sounded like it was screaming at me - even when I would just scuff the bottom of my feet on the carpet - which gave everything that was going on a very hostile quality that truly scared me the first time it happened. And yes, when I describe the experience now it sees almost like I am describing a severe mental illness!
Through trial and error I found that if I splashed very cold water on my face that the symptoms would disappear. Or maybe it was even the fact that while I was splashing the water on my face that I was leaning forward over the sink.?.? Inner ear problems (if this is one) can be caused by balance and position.
Like I said the only thing that seemed to bring this on me was when I read while I was tired - though maybe it was the position I read in.? For years afterward I would never read at night though I have been able to for the last decade without any issues.

No, you're not dying. I've had this occur on many occasions. It's my belief that it's stress-related. I've been diagnosed with PTSD (and depression) and sometimes, like during a panic attack, everything seems loud and truly annoying. You're not alone.Health Question & Answer

You're not dying LOL.
Could it be a problem with your ears.? When my ears pop, everything sounds louder for a while. Maybe your ears are clogged with wax, you should go get some ear drops!Health Question & Answer
