Question about the morning after pill?!

Question: Question about the morning after pill.?
My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex last week. We immediately went out and got the "morning after" pill or "plan B"...

We then had unprotected sex again AFTER she had taken the pill...

I read the "how it works" section of the box and it said that the pill will stop the egg from attaching to the walls of the uterus... and if that is the case, shouldn't this method protect against future unprotected sex.?

I know this was all very stupid and immature and if she is pregnant, that is something we will have to deal with as a consequence of our actions... but her period should have shown up about 2 days ago, so we are both worried now... granted 2 days isn't that big of a deal (especially since the pill can sometimes effect the timing of your next period).... but i was just wondering what you guys thought the odds wereHealth Question & Answer

Plan B doesn't necessarily prevent against future pregnancy. The pill is literally a *really* high dose of birth control meant to stimulate the body against implantation. However, it is not 100% effective and it is not proven to be effective for prevention of future pregnancies. It may have worked for both cases, but it's not supposed to be used as a preventative birth control method.

I would suggest you both look into birth control methods - the pill, Nuvaring, Mirena, etc. to prevent you both from having to go through this in the future and hopefully you can avoid a pregnancy now. Many clinics have cheap options and then you can avoid her parents knowing if that is a concern.

Best of luck! Health Question & Answer

the problem you guys face is that the egg may have dropped right after the incident of unprotected sex. it doesn't stop the egg, it just delays it long enough to prevent pregnancy.

timing is crucial. you may have missed that window where the Plan B would work.

but 2 days of missing your period, especially under stress, is no big deal. she should wait awhile if she doesn't get her period, and take a pregnancy test.

hopefully, you guys won't be having an unexpected celebration in 9 months. Health Question & Answer

The Plan B would have wiped out any unprotected sex for the duration that the 2 pills were taken. Anything after that doesnt count. I think that you guys should wait about a week until you freak out about being pregnant. When did she take the pill anyways.? Was a few weeks ago and now she is a couple day late on her period or was it like last week.? If you guys are really doubting it that much you should just go buy a cheap test. Health Question & Answer

I only think the Plan B works for a couple of days, so if you had unprotected sex in the next two days, you might be okay. However, after that I wouldn't bet on it. She needs to get on some type of birth control or you need to spring for some condoms and use them.

Two days is not much, so wait a week and have her take a hpt, first thing in the morning, as there are more hormones present in the first urine of the day.

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

It all depends where in her cycle this "unprotected sex" occured. If the first time was say around day 11 and she took the morning after pill then there may well have been no egg there yet. The egg was most likely released around day 12-14 so if you had sex after she took the morning after pill she could well be pregnant now.

Best to get a pregnancy test kit and make sure what is going on. Health Question & Answer

it depends how soon afterward you had sex. the morning after pill is basically the birth control pill but a higher dose (so like taking a bunch of birth control pills at once) so if it was within the next day or two i would think that it would continue to prevent pregnancy. i actually think it might be more likely that she could get pregnant from the time before taking the pill than the time after. eitherway, why don't you just have her take a pregnancy test so you guys can be sure.?Health Question & Answer

You can't really go by odds on something like this, too many variables - how much later did you have sex the second time after taking the morning after pill.?; what time frame she was at in her cycle, during the most fertile or least.?; if your swimmers actually work......

Don't take chances w/ this stuff, respond to each incident but preventive is best.Health Question & Answer

The morning after pill works, but when you take it that many times, you might as well go on Birth Control.
The morning after pill doesn't prevent the egg to attach itself for long term. It's only temporary. Don't think of it as a regular contraceptive.

Its a lot cheaper to get 1 month supply of birth control pills than to get a couple of Plan B. And it's more effective!Health Question & Answer

need to know what day you had sex the first time, what day she took the pill and what day you had sex again....but generally a woman is most fertile 12-14 days after the FIRST day of her last period....figure up her last "first" day and then do the math with which days you had unprotected sex...still I would say the chances are lower (maybe20-25%)Health Question & Answer

most probably she is in stress which could delay her period - one portion of Plan B could be enoug for unprotected sex before and after (1-2 days after BUT not more days!) - read below about Plan B and Missed periodsHealth Question & Answer
