Anyone out there suffer from hypothyroidism? I feel like death.?!

Question: Had half of thyroid gland removed 18 months ago. Have doctor's appointment this afternoon. I want to know if there is any other treatment besides going on Synthroid type medication for the rest of my life.
Answers:
I hope your appointment went well and you got all the info you needed about the treatment. I was diagnosed in 2001, with both hypothyroidism, goiter and Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and have been taking thyroxine ( i think it's the same as Synthroid) 100mcg daily. I was overweight, tired, had hair loss, but now after all this time I feel pretty much normal. I started feeling better very soon after starting thyroxin therapy, I think it was within weeks. I have also been practicing yoga since 2002 and it has been such a great balancing aspect in my life, and has helped a lot in dealing with the thyroid disease. Please do get in touch if you want to have a chat.

Other Answers:
unfortunately no, you need thyroid hormone to live, it regulates the metabolism of just about everything in your body.
There is Levothyroxine or Synthroid which replaces T4 that your body normal will convert to T3 as needed, there are also T3 type replacements. Talk with your doctor about medication options. If there is an Endocrinologist in your area, and you can afford to be seen by one, I would see if you can get an appointment. An Endocrinologist specializes in the endocrine system which includes your Thyroid because is releases hormones (thyroid hormones T3 and T4).

I had a Thyroidectomy in 2002, sister had one in 2001. My dad and brother and grand mother all have or had Graves disease.

No, 30 yrs of synthyroid ( they removed all my thyroid ). You will adjust & so will your body. I forget I need synthyroid until time to take it each day. Good luck, it is more difficult at first.
I have it and taking the pill is no big deal. Before being diagnosed I felt lethargic and mentally fuzzy. Since being on the correct dosage, it's been a huge difference with no side effects. It's just replacing what your body needs.
