I read calcium helps cold sores. Does anyone know if this is true?!
Question:
Answers:
While most have heard of the traditional treatments of lysine, B-complex or immunoboosters such as zinc or echinacea, few people do know that low calcium levels could indeed foster an outbreak. Cold sores come from a virus, but they only surface when the calcium in TISSUE is low. This is not the same as calcium being low in the serum. You may have adequate Calcium, but if you are lacking Vitamin F (aka Essential Fatty Acids), the calcium is not absorbed in tissue. Calcium, Vitamin D, and Essential Fatty Acids work together to pull calcium in the tissue.

Also, if outbreaks occur often, be sure to check your thyroid, as this is common in hypothyroidism also.
Hope that answers your question.
