Is it bad / worthless to run on a treadmill twice a day. (3-5 miles) will it ha!

Question:

Answers:
yea I have been trying to figure out this one myself. I did 6 miles on the treadmill for a week and only lost one pound. I was eating under 1500 calories a day and burning over 1000 on the treadmill. I think I triggered a slow down in my body so now I am not on the treadmill so much, but I am still unclear as to how much and how often to trigger the weight loss.

Actually, there is such a thing as over-stretching your work outs. Most doctors say 30 minutes a day of rigorous cardivascular work is sufficient. Your body needs time to rest in between workouts. Working out also cause a buildup of toxins that your body seeks to expel. Drink LOTS of water all day, during and after your workouts.
Don't overdo it. Only the pros have long/frequent workouts and that's because they are in training. You won't need two workouts a day as you mentioned, and it won't do twice the good. In fact, you could be doing your body harm by overexertion.

It's great that you are working out though - you've got a leg up on many folks who can but don't!!

3-5 miles total? Or 3 miles the first run, and 3 the second? Unless you're training for a marathon, I'm going to hope you mean 3-5 miles total.

I've read that it is actually better for you to excercise in short bursts, say half hour now, and then half hour later, than it is to try it all on one outing. The reason for this that it takes a bit more energy to get your body started up. There is a cut off for this, but I don't know the amount off the top of my head.

While I don't know if it has 'twice the effect', I'm going to warn you against TOO much excersise. Yes, there is such a thing as too much excercise. Overtraing will result in less of a gain, and possibly build up of lactic acid. I say possibly because I'm not sure the type of acid it is, but there can be acid build up. It happened to one of my friends.

Hope this helps!
