How can I get my hair to not be "poofy"?!

Question:
I was with my friends and they were all like your hair is soooo poofy! It's really hard to keep it tame because my hair is EXTREMELY thick!
Answers:
buy some hair relaxer, my hair is also extremely thick, so i put the relaxer in and style it as usual, Be sure though that you dont mix the relaxer in with another hair product that has some kind of volumizer your hair will turn out really funky to the point you wont want to leave the house.

Other Answers:
apply a bit of gel while it is wet.

use lots and lots of gel

OMG you must be my long lost relative!

I have like THICK THICK hair!
and I got it slightly undercut, If its long, get it undercut and thinned out - you will be shocked at the diffence!

I have also had uber short hair, and that works with thick hair too - but i do mean short, only couple inches long :) GL HUN :)

If it is puffy and thick.I would go have a stylist thin it out for you. If it is poofy because of frizz.I would try a product called KMS Flat Out. Also, try using a flat iron to smooth it down.

don't know just hairspray it or gal it

use conditioner after washing and then put serum on it before drying it.

get a pair of thinning shears, thin it from underneath never on top, a little at a time , so you don't thin it more than you really want to,then add gel when its slightly damp and you can also use a flat iron after its dry, I guarantee you it will work if you follow these steps !

Use a leave-in conditioner. Squeeze the towel on your hair to dry, don't rub. Use your fingers to comb it. Let it air dry if possible.

After it's dry, put some frizz control product in your palms, rub them together (to emulsify the product), then pull your hair back and run your palms over it (all the way to the ends) like you're putting it into a ponytail. This will coat the hair without frizzing it.

Oh, and never brush it.

i have been in a hair salon litteraly all my life and i will tell you that there is a 4 hour straightner you can have done if you find someone that can do it. its about $350 depending on were you are and all. its so woth the time and money, it will make your hair staight but it will make it not poofy, you will be amazed at the results. you can try to just put in this stuff called silk infusion made by chi. my hair is thick too. you can also try to get it thinned but it sometimes dont work too well. there is this stuff called frizz-ez and tho im not usually to big on advertized products its pretty good stuff. you can also do a perm, most people think a perm is to get curly hair but actually it just resets the folicuels in your hair so if you tell your hair dresser to perm it straight then that will work too. you can also get a ceramic iron made by chi and then use it daily.as you can see there are meny things to do its all on time, money, hair, and your preferance.
go to contempohair.com, there should be a way to contact the stylists there. they can help you too. or you can i.m. me via aim at brandnewgone.

My hair is also extremely thick and I ALWAYS have my hair thinned out when I get it cut at the salon. I also always use a hair serem or hair lotion when blow drying my hair, NEVER blow dry your hair upside down! You will NEVER be able to get it down! TRUST ME! I also ALWAYS use my CHI hair straightner, that makes my hair so NOT poofy I almost want to use a volume product to give it a boost! CHI hair straightners run about $160-$190 in a salon, I purchased mine on ebay for $70 brand new in the orignal box papers and all. Do some research and you CAN find a CHI at a reasonable price. I've found that my CHI was the answer to my poof problem all along! My hair is down my back about 2 inches below my bra so I definatly have a lot to have room to talk! Definatly try my routine!
