How to dress modestly without looking frumpy?!

Question:
Help! I need modest (re: tops with sleeves and high-ish necklines, skirts down to the floor or tea-lenght, no pants) clothes that don't make me look like a grandma! I'm 21 and I have a couple cute modest outfits: peasant tops and skirts, a jean skirt made from two pairs of jeans, etc, but everything else I find in stores is either immodest or ugly. I can sew, and I don't have a lot of money, so any idea for outfits or where to shop would be great. Thank you!
Answers:
Sometimes you can find things on ebay by typing "modest" and checking item listing and description.

If you sew, the way to go is definitely patterns. That way you can pick your own fabrics and avoid the frump.

Long skirts are in everywhere now so no problem there. You may need to stitch them if they have a slit though.

Good luck!

try ross and wal mart. its cheap and its still fashiony. you can try looking at stores and gettin ideas aso you can make them yourself

Gypsey skirts are all the rage at the moment (at least in UK) and Indian tops, so you are in luck. The hippy look is making a comeback, but hey, at least it isn't the mid-eighties look.

Ann Taylor is modest & not frumpy. Professional & classy. If you can't afford to buy you, you can always copy their look.

And its very afordable

Look in catalogs and brochures. U'll be proud of urself once you find the right clothes. I would also Look to friends and family for help. they're the closest people you have! Good luck with looking good!

Value City is a great place. K-Mart has really nice dresses and skirt outfits. Walmart has material on clearance tables for $1-$2 a yard. I applaud your effort.

You can find modest things anywhere.if you just look. I am Mormon and have had to look for modest clothing my whole life.but I still love fashion and being in fashion. You can get shirts that have cap sleaves and Long shirts are "in" and do not show your middruff.you can get things like that at Express. Also Capri's and Knee Length shorts are in. Those used to be super ugly but now they make them with mad style! just cruise the mall and keep your eyes open. You will find fashoinable stuff that is modest and you will be suprised how much you will find. Kind of Pricey but Bannana Republi has a lot of modest clothes..that way you can get ideas for yourself of things to sew, with your own personal style.

Have a gay guy take you shopping!

I have been told that I dress modestly, I like clean lines black and browns, grey's Calvin Klein type simple (I hate making decisions) I dislike crayola colored clothes.
I go with pastels and earth tones. The dreaded Capri pant became my friend last summer, girl-cut tee's in a variety of fabrics.
Fitted shirt-loose pants, fitted jeans-chunky sweater
Look of linen, cotton, silk, however use of poly-blends that save on cleaning, last longer and do not wrinkle.
I shop off season for example the expensive 72.00 pants are 9.00 in the clearance, I swear. Good luck, I always want to look simple, modest, elegant and pretty (note I said 'want'). Less is more that is a fact. I also learned the hard way that one well purchased item of clothing is better then ten "deals".
