how much weight is safe to lose in a week?!

Question:
I have lost 20 lbs in two months and still losing. I have changed my eating habits, less carbs more exercise, and feel confident about losing more weight. I am concerned I may be losing weight too fast.
Answers:
1 kilogram per week is medically healthy. The slower you lose weight, the more likely you'll keep it off. Not more than 2 pounds per week.

I think 2lbs is what I've been told

I've heard 2 to 3 lbs but it kind of depends on how heavy you were to begin with. If you have changed all that, and have quite a bit to loose you'll lose it faster than someone who only had 5 lbs to lose.

I also heard about 2lbs a week however you also have to consider that your weight fluctuates. Wrestlers, for example, to make weight, can easily drop 10-15 lbs in a few days.

the safe amount of weight to lose is about 2 lbs. a week so you are just about right.

two to three pounds i think. hey if you dont mind me asking, what exactly are you doing to lose that much?

You should have really seen a doctor before you started loosing all the weight; GO NOW!
Generally 1-2 per week is acceptable (unless you are grossly obese).

I believe magazines usually say 1-2 pounds a week is best. But it all depends on your body weight to begin with, as well as your metabolism. You should also take into account your age and pay attention to how many calories you take in and burn off every day.

I have read that 1-2 lbs per week is the healthiest, meaning the weight shouldn't easily come back on. Congrats on the loss. I have lost 16,5 lbs in 3 months.

2 pounds a week is safe, but the first week or two you may loose more. I lost 7 pounds in the first week, but my doctor said that most of it was water weight that I was loosing from water retention. Caffeinated beverages and salty foods make you retane water. Keep up the good work.

Well, I've heard about very obese people being encouraged to lose as much as a lb a day but they had emergency health situations that made it important to lose weight quickly.

Like the previous poster, I belive that a couple of lbs a week is optimal. Not only can your body adjust to that pretty well but it's also going to be easier to keep the weight off because you're not starving yourself.

Good Luck w/ the weight loss.

I would say to keep the weight off you need to loose about 2lbs a week, well done for loosing the weight you obviously feel better for it

1-2 lbs is what doctors say is safe. If you have dramatically changed eating habits or increased exercise habits, you could be losing more in some weeks. As long as you are consuming a minimum of 1200 calories a day and not spending hours and hours at the gym, I think you will be safe.

I work for Weight Watchers, the only "diet" that is approved by the AMA. According to Weight Watchers 1-2lbs per week is healthy. I agree as I lost 25 pounds on weight watchers and have kept it off for 2 years now. Good luck. www.weightwatchers.com to find a meeting in your area.

People love the "safe" word. You can lose up to 2lbs of fat and most likely everything else will be water or muscle mass. Get off the word safe and healthy. Losing weight is about our vanity. Proper diet and nutrition has to do with giving our body what it needs to function. We do not have to work to get food anymore. Its too easy which is why we over-eat. Its entertainment. Movies, carnivals, social gatherings. Listen to your body, east more frequently and get a hobby that requires movement like sports, dancing, yoga, walking anything.

I heard that 2-5 lbs a week is safe. There is a diet given to patients that need to undergo bypass operations that will make them lose weight like 5 lbs a week. So I guess, 5 lbs max is safe.

it's very unhealthy to loose more than 1 kilo(regarding to my french culture) in a week. when u r loosing more that 1 kilo in a week, u r not actually loosing fat but u r loosing muscles which make ur metabolism very low, and water+vitamins+minerals which make ur body weak n poor, and makes u feel very sick and also reveal an unhealthy skin.
and also most of those who lost more than 1 kilo in a week they regain their weight quickly (becoz of the low metabolism (mitochondrie)).
so when u r loosing 1 kilo/week u r loosing just fat, u r protecting ur muscles, u r giving ur body a chance to get use to ur new way of eating and that's how u can loose more kilos and stay with a healthy sexy look.
if u r between 15 n 24, u may take 1250 calories per day if u want to loose 1 kilo/week(coz u need in the normal case 1600-1800 calories).
but at the end ask a nutritionist coz u may have a special case, u cannot have a diet from ur own mind coz that's too dangerous..
good luck..
