Make sure to follow all of your doctor's directions for medication, etc. It is a serious disease that causes continuing damage to your joints, which can only be prevented with prescription medication.

That aside, eating healthy and exercising is the next best thing - work with your doctor to find an exercise program you are comfortable with. Water aerobics or swimming are great, and even just walking can make a big difference.

Vitamin supplements are unproven and generally don't have much effect. There is very little evidence to support if any of these actually work. But if you do want to try any of these, do it on top of your regular meds under the guidance of you doctor- don't take anything without consulting him first! They have lots more experience with this disease, and some supplements may actually react with some medications.

Now you also need to deal with this mentally - the best way is to look to your family members for support. But you can also go to http://www.arthritis.org and visit the RA connect section - they have a message board where you can get lots of emotional support from people who have gone through it too.

Good luck with your treatment!

"Evening Primrose Oil has been shown to be effective against rheumatoid arthritis; at this writing it has not been tried against osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis begins as an inflammation of the membrane that produces the fluid that lubricates bone
joints.

The inflammation can be reduced by slowing down the release of stored AA or slowing the production PCE2.

Food allergy's could also cause pain in joints. Try removing offenders such as nightshade plants, if that doesn't help, eliminate wheat products.

Evening Primrose Oil is effective in controlling rheumatoid arthritis in a substantial number of patients.

Please note: EPO does not benefit patients receiving more than trivial doses of steroids, indomethacin-like or aspirin-like drugs.

Evening Primrose Oil can be taken and then the drug dosage reduced after one to three months. Allow 1-3 months of 3-4 500 milligram capsules taken at both morning and evening. Other dietary deficiencies should be corrected as well. B6, C, E and pantothenic acid."
