Help! Need some ideas on getting rid of lice. My six year old came home from sc!

Question:
I treated her with the usual store bought disinfectants but still have nits stuck deep in her hair. She has very long hair and dont want to cut it. Any suggestions.
Answers:
the store bought treatment should have come with a very fine toothed comb called a 'nit comb'. if it didn't, go buy one that does. you'll have to use the nit comb to carefully comb out all the nits.

it works, my daughter has very thick hair and it worked for her. you don't have to cut her hair.

Other Answers:
go to the pharmacy and see the pharmacist. They most likely will recommend Rid-Ex or something like that.

i hear not so sure if its true mayo. put it on her head and it is supposed to kill em off.. but i would bomb all of her things back pack comps hair clips bedding and your house as much as you can leave the house for a few hours and bomb away. the kind of mayo you put on your sandwich.. the oils in it should help the nits slide right out

The lice kits come with a very fine comb for that very purpose.

Coconut oil and citrus extracts are a good at home remedy. But go to the pharmacy and ask for the strongest over the counter lice treatment. RID is the best one. Just follow the instructions on the box and you won't have to cut your hair.

I work in a school and kids get it all the time. Unfortunately, it is really easy to get. Go to the drugstore and get a product called Rid. It comes with a shampoo and fine-toothed comb. You have to really, REALLY comb your child's hair over and over to get rid of all of the nits. You should also wash all of your child's bedding in hot water and bleach or some sort of disinfectant. If your child wears a hat or cap, get rid of it in the garbage outside of your house. Good luck.

Well.lice can be treated with the use of anti-lice shampoos. You have to bathe her hair in anti-lice solutions for four or more weeks once every week.
The nits are eggs that lice lay and the four week formula has something to do with the lice's hatching period. The adult lice will die out so no more eggs and the left over eggs or nits.will hatch and be killed too in four weeks.
Plus.to speeden up you can pick out nits with your hands or get someone to do it for you.

After the traditional store treatments, you still have to comb through with the nit comb. Try a hot oil treatment after you are ABSOLUTELY SURE that you have killed all the lice to ease the combing so it won't be so painful for her.

Make very sure that you wash all the bedding, spray down the drapes and carpet, and discard the pillows if you can afford to. Getting rid of nits is not a quick process; it takes time and patience. Take the time you need to comb her hair out, and inspect thoroughly. Good luck . this is a pain on the butt.

Wet her hair with water and apply mayonnaise to it,working it into the scalp.Wrap her hair in a towel for 30 min, then wash it out.To keep her lice free, spray her hair lightly with hair spray every day.Lice will not stick to it.

my little sister is allergic to the medicated stuff. we put lard all in her long hair and combed it through, put a shower cap on and put it under heat for almost an hour. you could probably use a blow dryer. then comb it again and wash out. you have to use a dish washing liquid that cuts grease. the heated grease kills the eggs and when you comb it they should all fall out pretty easily. good luck.

It takes time and patiences to totally rid your house of lice. I've been there. Some people say to use Mayo on the hair, let it set and then comb it out. Some use Olive Oil. No matter what you use, you will HAVE to sit and go through her hair section by section picking the nits out. There are nit combs but don't trust them to get everything. Don't forget to put all her stuffed animals and any hairy toys in trash bags and keep them closed for a couple of weeks. this will kill any that are holding on to them. All bedding need to be cleaned (and cleaned and cleaned) to get rid of it. Make sure she knows to not share brushes or hats with ANYONE, or try hats on in the stores. That is all I remember for now. Oh, the doctor can give you a medicated shampoo to use but I dont' think it is any better than what you can buy on the drug store. Plus it is not always good for the child, esp really little ones.

my experience

I advice to Buy Para Or Para plus from any pharmacy near to u.Spray all over her head and keep it at least for 10 mints. then wash it.Make sure to wash her cloths, bed sheets pillows. Also tell her to avoid wearing others cloths. I hope this may help u

Be careful. Pesticides are dangerous, especially to kids. Neem oil is supposed to work, but it stinks to high heaven.

Tea tree oil might help. They like clean hair. Can't stick to oily hair.
