Sit-ups is only a part of it. There are various other exercises that can build ab muscles. Focusing on just sit-ups could be boring and time consuming. Look up some other exercises like crunches, leg-raises, etc.
also, dieting and other various exercising is essential. You can do 200 sit-ups a day, but then eat nothing but McDonald's three times a week and be sitting in a chair for most of the day.
